Second edition of the Joint NGO Briefing Series will focus on the 2011 substantive session of ECOSOC

The Information Service and the NGO Liaison Unit of the United Nations Office at Geneva, together with the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service, are organizing the second edition of the Joint NGO Briefing Series. Taking place on9 June, the meeting will be devoted to the2011 substantive session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, to be held at the Palais des Nations from 4 to 29 July, and will include a briefing by the Director of the UNESCO Office in Geneva. A provisional programme isattached.

The main focus of discussions during the High-level Segment from 4 to 8 July will be on how to achieve the Education for All agenda. More than 500 participants from governments, multilateral organizations, aid agencies, civil society, private sector and academia will assess how the world, confronted with the global financial and economic crisis, can maintain and accelerate its commitments to the Education for All agenda and ensure that the Millennium Development Goals are achieved.

Participation is open to members of NGOs in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and/or in association with the Department of Public Information. Interpretation in French and English will be provided.

The UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) is an inter-agency programme of the United Nations mandated to develop constructive relations between the UN and civil society organizations.
