UNCTAD side event MOIOn the sidelines of the President of the General Assembly’s High-Level Thematic Debate on “Means of Implementation for a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda,” the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) convened a side event on 10 February entitled “Making the Sustainable Development Goals Work – Harnessing Trade, Investment and Technology for Sustainable Development.” The event included opening remarks from President of the General Assembly Mr. Sam Kutesa and a welcome address by UNCTAD Secretary-General Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi. The discussion included perspectives from Member States and civil society, and was followed by an interactive debate.

The event sought to:

  • Deepen discussions on revitalizing the global partnership in support of national sustainable development efforts through trade.
  • Gain a better understanding from Member States and civil society on how UNCTAD, in collaboration with other organizations, can help countries to harness interlinkages between sustainable development goals and to monitor progress.

In advance of the event, UNCTAD launched Policy Brief 31, “Advancing the Post-2015 Development Agenda requires a development policy rethink,” the latest in its series of Policy Briefs. Find out more about UNCTAD and its work on the post-2015 sustainable development agenda here.
